In or Out: Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett attends the 'Screen Worlds' exhibition opening at Federation Square in Melbourne, Australia in Romance Was Born...

...dressed as grandma's couch.

Welp. This pretty much puts to rest the idea that she can make anything look good. The press has already come up with a nickname that makes us seeth with jealousy because we didn't think of it first: Cate Blanket.

Romance Was Born Spring 2009 Collection

Romance Was Born is an Australian label and Cate's apparently a big fan, since she specifically asked for the dress, part of their Doilies and Pearls, Oysters and Shells collection.

We're all for a little whimsy in fashion and we do love when red carpet-dwellers take risks (see: Barrymore, Drew), but poodles, we can NOT get behind this one. We can practically smell the Jean Nate and cat hair from here.

We luvya Catie, but OUT.

Vogue Australia: Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett graces not one, but four different covers of Vogue marking the magazine's 50th anniversary in Australia.

Vogue explains:

"I could have got (Mario) Testino or (Patrick) Demarchelier to shoot her, but when we came up with the idea of David the hairs on the back of my neck stood up, and I knew Cate would love it," Vogue Australia editor-in-chief Kirstie Clements said.

"Cate's agent said she'd never heard her say yes to a project so fast, and Cate nominated in that minute Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Martin Grant and Armani as the designers she would like to wear, so that's what we did," Clements said.

When you've got Cate Blanchett eager to pose for you, why limit yourself to just one cover?

We love how they turned her into a fashion sketch. We also love the clothes, except for the Balenciaga. Although Cate managed to make even that look good.

In or Out: Cate Blanchett

Enough with all this reality TV talk, let's get our fashion on, bitches!

Cate Blanchett attends the Armani
Privé Fall 2009 Couture show during Paris Fashion Week at Palais de Chaillot in Paris wearing Armani Privé, and ohmigod, kittens...

... she nailed it once again.

Not every gal could pull off a look like this, but it almost looks like it was tailor-made for Cate's angular, icy self. Her body looks slammin' in that frock and that simple, loose, slightly disheveled ponytail makes a perfect complement. Love the frosty eyes and the pale pink lipstick, as well as the almost total lack of jewelry. That's usually not the most flattering hem length but she's so tall and thin and FREAKIN' FABULOUS that it looks just fine to us.

The only thing we don't really like are the shoes (from the same collection), which, due to the color and the relative chunkiness, tend to draw the eye down when the dress clearly needs to be the focal point. Besides, she did that matchy-match thing with her clutch and you just know how much we hate that.

We have SUCH a girlcrush on her. IN.

Cate Blanchett in InStyle Australia

Cate Blanchett is featured in the June 2009 issue of InStyle Australia magazine, photographed by David Gubert.

You know how sometimes writers get lazy in a case like this and start off with "If a picture is worth a thousand words, blahblahblah...?" But honestly, kittens, we've got NOTHING to add. Okay, except to say the bitch knows what the hell to do when a camera is on her. Oh, and also, she looks better in the clothes than the models. And don't forget to look at the clothes, which are fabulous. We should add that we love her. Total girlcrush. Okay, nothing else to add.

Commence viewing. Fabulous is go.
