This was a surprisingly good entry from Jesse.

We say that because frankly, we haven't liked anything he's sent down that runway before this. Sure, it just skirts up to the border of tacky, but we're talking Heidi here. Lots of thigh and lots of boob are to be expected. We really like the weave and the way he did the cups.

The back is kind of a mess, though.

And while he's to be commended for using a rich color, the fabric reads a little downscale.

Jonathan was so proud of his little romper but we had a hard time signing onto it. Mainly because, romper, y'know?.

But it drapes nicely and it's executed pretty flawlessly, so he's got that.

And loath as we are to admit it, fashion editors do love rompers even if all right-thinking people do not.

Bottom line is it's trendy and it had a lot of nice touches. The only thing working against it is the lack of color. Had this been rendered in eye-catching hues, we bet Joanna Coles would have been all over it.

But look how cute he is when he's all proud. He's so Pixar.

Boo Boo Kitty & Mila

Darlings, expect a lot of WTFs going forward.

WTF?

Help us out here, minions. Does ANYTHING about this entry make sense to you?

Like previous entries from Boo Boo, the dress starts off nice on the top. We like the frippery around the neck and we like the colors. We like the way the bodice is constructed and she did some nice work on the seaming.

But WTF is going on with that hem?

And WHY TF does the back of the dress look so much worse than the front? Did she think the model wasn't going to walk down the runway and turn around?

And finally, WTF was she even thinking with this concept? It's way too washed out, color-wise, for a cover and because of the shiny fabrics it looks, as the judges pointed out, a little too bridal.

We enjoy her for the entertainment value and she seems like a sweet girl, but she's been floundering every single week. We hate to say it, but it's time for Boo Boo Kitty to go.



"One thing that it's a little disturbing to me and disheartening to me is that after coming in second nobody was really happy for me. Nobody said congratulations. I don't know what's that about."

We're not even going to abbreviate this time: WHAT THE FUCK?

WHAT THE FUCKETY-FUCK-FUCK?!?

That is the STUPIDEST fucking complaint we have ever heard from anyone on a reality competition EVER. We realize that these people are tired and stressed out and the production people are firing questions at them in order to get a juicy soundbite, but who the hell says something like this? Who expects hugs for making second place FROM THE VERY PEOPLE SHE'S COMPETING AGAINST? THIS ISN'T THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS, LADY.

wE KNEW --sorry -- We knew when she had that second-episode meltdown over her model picking another designer that she was going to be a little nutty, but that just takes the cake. Get over yourself, honey.

And you won't be getting any hugs or high-fives over this shitty dress, either.

Once again, we're completely befuddled as to the color choices here. When the editor in chief of a fashion magazine tells you what she wants from you in order to get your dress on the cover, PAY ATTENTION. Was Mila still pouting over the lack of HUGZ that she didn't hear the part about color?

And if you're going to be doing color-blocking (we're getting really bored with the color blocking, by the way) it better be damn perfect, especially when it's all so centrally located. Some of those seams look mighty poor to our eyes.

Plus, as Nina pointed out, the pattern basically serves as a roadmap to her funbox. "Here it is, boys! Or at least, here's the general vicinity!"

IF she had chosen more vibrant colors and IF she had executed it perfectly (and IF she hadn't pissed us off with her whining) we might have liked this dress, but to be honest, we kind of hate it.

She managed to put together a look that is both bland AND weird at the same time.

Emilio & Ben

Kittens, we have so much catching up to do!

We had a somewhat irrationally negative reaction to this dress.

Our initial reaction was that it was "more of the same" from him, but that's really not true, technically speaking. You can put this next to his other entries and see that it's not the same, not quite.

But there IS a similarity in the broad sense: cocktail dress + technique. In previous weeks, the technique was applique; this week it's lacing.

And WAY TOO MUCH lacing to boot. We tend to automatically look at lacing as a bit of honky-tonk tackiness. Sue us, we're snotty bitches.

And while we realize Heidi isn't exactly prim in her style and that this dress would have been altered, if not rebuilt from the ground up to fit her, we think that bust is way too low for a gal as bodacious as her, especially since she'd be wearing it shortly after giving birth, when her jugs runneth over.

On the other hand, we agreed with the judges when they said they found his willingness to alter the dress right there and then according to their critiques to be a pretty admirable thing and highly useful when dealing with a cover shot.

An unestablished designer SHOULD be ready to jump through hoops if he wants his look featured on the cover, and the judges were absolutely right that it looked better without the straps. Although it only drove the point home to us how inappropriately low cut the design is for Heidi.


How fucking cute was Ben when the judges were praising his dress? You could tell he was just barely keeping his emotions in check.

We really liked this dress, but we can't agree with the prevailing opinion in the comments section that Ben was "robbed" of his win. Let's break it down.

The colors are beautiful and rich and just interesting enough to make the combination seem refreshingly different.

Loved the belt, although we're not sure if he made it or pulled it off the wall. The judging makes it sound like he made it but the material he originally bought for the belt was a metallic leather. Either way, it was a strong choice.

And we were with Heidi in loving the way he framed the cutout.

But, we're not convinced that this would have been a better choice for the cover shot than Anthony's. While we love the color choices and the color blocking, we tend to think they would have been a bit distracting on a cover. Yes, the Duchess said that this dress "punches through" the noise on a newstand, but it would also fight all the other elements on a magazine cover, namely, all that text.

Don't get us wrong, it's a gorgeous piece, but not necessarily a cover piece.

Auf-Wiedersehen!

Goodbye, girl so low-key we couldn't come up with a nickname!

Okay, here's your daily allotment of really mean T Lo bitchiness. As we said in the Congratulations post, we only saw the first ten minutes or so of this episode before heading out the door to catch our train. We really only needed to see that much for Tom to turn to Lorenzo and say "She really needs to go." Lorenzo responded with, "Well, now that you've said that, she's probably going home tonight." So, blame us, kittens.

Scratch that. Blame her.

Look, she seems like a nice enough girl and there's just enough raw talent there that she could actually make a go of it in this industry. As Tim told her when he was shoving her out the door, she should be proud of how far she made it considering how little in the way of training and experience she has.

When we agreed that she needed to go, it wasn't because she pissed us off or anything. It's just that it was obvious to us that she'd gone as far as she could in this competition. She was churning out some very similar looks each week and she had a clear and obvious lack of technique.

This was not a horrible outfit by any stretch of the imagination. We loved the soft iciness of the colors; loved that detail at the neck line; loved the vest and the shorts. But it's so obviously not a covergirl outfit. Not even close. We could see Heidi wearing this walking down the street somewhere with her husband and their 16 children tagging along. A sunglasses and shopping kind of look, not a cover look.

She seems sweet, but she's too much in her own head and this outfit reflects a certain mechanical approach to her designs. She's not putting out pieces that have a lot of personality to them.

One more thing about the judging: they praised these shorts, and from a design perspective, they are pretty cute. But they so obviously didn't fit her properly (hello, insane crotch). That's one thing we've noticed about the judging this season. We don't know if Nina has consciously toned herself down or not, but she's letting an awful lot of things she would have criticized mightily in previous seasons pass by without comment, specifically fit and execution.

Congratulations!

Hey! Remember that TV show called Project Runway?

THE GREATEST PRIZE IN THE HISTORY OF PROJECT RUNWAY!!!!

We've come to expect hyperbole from Tim, and we're not saying a cover shot is anything to sneeze at, but ... having your look put into production by Banana Republic? Getting Iman to wear your dress on the red carpet? HELLO?

We were standing in line to get inside the tent yesterday and Joanna was standing right in front of us. After a quick introduction, she admitted she was afraid that she was too mean to Anna. Honey, we're here to tell you, after the execrable guest judging of last season, a bitchy British fashion editor is exactly what the doctor ordered.

So congratulations to Miss Sophia.

It's funny. After all this time, we can still have a new and unique viewing experience with this show. Because of the snow and the subsequent complete clusterfuck that mass transit became, we were only able to get a train into NY in the middle of the night. We saw maybe the first ten minutes of the show before the honk of a cab horn came in through our ice-encrusted windows, and the results of the show were relayed to us by reading our minions' commentary in the T Lounge post. We were pleasantly surprised to hear Miss Sophia won and judging by the enthusiastic reception his dress received in our comments section, we couldn't wait to see a picture of it.

Fast forward to 2 am (and believe us, there was no fast forwarding for us, thanks to the ashtray-smelling meth-head sitting in front of us on the train). A sleepy Peter Shelton lets us in, heads back to bed, and we immediately fired up our laptops and headed off to the Lifetime page to eagerly see the dress everyone had raved about. Our reaction? A puzzled "Oh."

We weren't originally bowled over by it, to be honest. It wasn't until we saw the entire show (last night) that we got our heads around it. It is a pretty dress and it is entirely appropriate for a Marie Claire cover. No arguments there.


But we couldn't get over how ... smushed it looks. Like it was poorly packed in a suitcase. We like the design very much, but we were surprised that no one really mentioned that.

There is a lot of interesting detailing here and it's to Anthony's credit that none of it looks like too much or overwhelms the dress. Not to take anything away from his win, but he benefitted from the fact that, for whatever reasons, the rest of the airheads in the competition went off on flights of design fancy that were particularly ill-suited for a cover shot.

But really, it was a deserved win. The color was gorgeous and absolutely appropriate. It looks exactly like something Heidi would wear. And as the judges said, it pretty much screamed "SPRING IS HERE!"

One other thing to note: we like this season's cast, but they're getting to be a little low-key as time goes on. It was truly touching how happy all of them were for Anthony. We can't think of any other designer who got that kind of screaming and clapping reaction for their win. It was adorable and a testament both to how much the cast loves him and how sweet the cast can be. It actually made these two nasty bitches tear up a bit.
