Boo Boo Kitty, Jay, Jonathan

If we see one more red fucking dress, we're gonna scream.

AAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

There. Now that we've gotten that our of our systems, let's get to rippin'.

Oh Boo Boo Kitty, we love you so much. Even though you haven't treated us to nearly as many tears as we'd hoped for, you do add some nice tension every week as we lean forward in our seats and say "This is IT! She's gonna WAIL this time!" And we thank you for that.

Also, the facial expressions. Priceless.

We really support the new regime's tactic of randomly placing dangerous objects like buckets full of water around the work room. We look forward to small fires in the corners and maybe some broken glass and live wires artfully placed around the room. Perhaps for the finale they could open the workroom door and let a tiger loose or something.
.

Okay, the dress. We actually really like what she did around the neckline there. Not so much the Campbell's corsage, but those little noodles that provided some movement in an area where there's not usually any movement. Unfortunately, the color of the fabric makes it look like she's got half a box of Kleenex stuffed into her bra.

And it seems to fit her fairly well. There are some issues with the puckering in the seams, but for the most part, it's executed well too. BUT THAT SKIRT, KITTENS. What was she thinking there? It's like the dress starts off okay on the top and the further your eyes go down, the worse it gets, until you hit the bottom where it just goes right off the rails.

Y'know, the Red Dress Ladies were fabulous and fun and all, even inspirational, but we honestly don't get the crying. Granted, we have long established that we are cold-hearted bitches, but heart disease is fairly common and if we burst into tears every time we met someone living with it, we'd never get anything done.

Jay did a really nice job dressing her in a manner that is appropriate for her age and body type. The silhouette and the proportions are all fine.

But this baffles the hell out of us. It looks like the thorax on a bug. We don't understand why he went in that direction and we don't understand how he couldn't see how weird it looked on her.

We'll give her credit for one thing: she's rocking it.

Can we just say that we kind of adore Jonathan? He's the perfect blend of bitchy and sweet. Hey! He's where the gritty meets the pretty! We get it!

We also get what he was going for here. If you follow the line of the dress from the top to the bottom, it's a continuous curve in and out, like a Christmas tree effect. That's thoughtful and interesting. We also have to commend his fabric choice because we are SICK of looking at that cliched Valentine's red.

But there are two major problems here. The fabric looks absolutely tortured...

And that sash is horrible. It looks like what it is: a last-minute add-on put there just to fulfill the dictates of the challenge.

And we're also not supercrazy about the over-worked back (okay, that's 3 things). Like we said, we get where he was going. With some time and without the need to slap a soup logo on it, this could be a real knockout of a gown.

Maya & Jay

In the version of Project Runway that plays in our heads, these were the winning looks.

Those editors struggled mightily to wring some drama out of it but except for a couple sound bites, nothing much came of it.

Sure, it's possible he slacked off because he had immunity and that's not cool, but they managed to pull together to highly technical garments and we doubt she did all the work on her own.

Model: Valeria Leonova

See, if you're going to take the designers to a museum, show them a bunch of couture gowns, and ask them to make a signature look, this should have been exactly what the judges were looking for.

And to be fair, they did praise this to the heavens, but then they inexplicably praised Mila for making separates and handed the win to her. Oh, cracky judges. Don't ever change on us.

Anyway, this was an unusual and strikingly beautiful look that was styled to perfection, which in itself is unusual because the styling this season has been pretty bad so far.

And Valeria walked the hell out of it.

Now, those noodles weren't executed as well as they could have been and maybe this is where we and the judges parted ways. We would have given the slight technical problems a pass and awarded the win based on the design alone, but it's possible that the judges weren't thinking along those lines.

We agreed with Nina when she commented on how sexy that low, low cut on the side is.

Model: Brittany Oldehoff/Kasey Ashcroft

If we were members of the Geek Squad we would have been pissed, because the knockoff blows the 500 dollar version right out of the water.

Fifty bucks. Just keep reminding yourself of that. They did some amazing detail work here. Absolutely love the horizontal pleats in the front and the curved hem on the top. One thing we don't like (and it's nitpicky, we admit) is that big ol' button on the vest. It just looks a little "craft project" to us.

And the other minor criticism is that they really didn't reinterpret the original look that much. It's the same color, style, length, and silhouette as the original, just done better.

Of course, that might have been deliberate on their parts, but it might have been a factor in the judging. Still, they're our winners of the week.

Congratulations!

Respect my creativiteh!

Oh god, what a welcome sight it was to see Tim Gunn knee deep in animal shit.

No offense, Uncle Tim, but after a full season of "Here's some pretty fabric! Make something pretty out of it!" we were over the moon at the prospect of seeing some old school PR forced creativity in the Gristedes and car parts mode.

And can we just say that, so far, Bunim/Murray is doing a really good job of staging and shooting the show? That stuff matters more than the average viewer realizes and in these first two episodes of Season 7, we're seeing more energy and style in the way the show is presented than we ever saw in all of S6, which as far as we're concerned should be labeled "The Season The Weinsteins Almost Completely Fucked the Show Over."

Model: Kasey Ashcroft

So congratulations, Jay! We don't know if you go by Jay or Jay Nicholas, but it's easier to type the former even though in conversation we invariably refer to you by the latter.

We get a kick out of the fact that he comes off all focused and serious and speak-from-the-chest and then when he gets tired or lets his guard down he girls it up in a big girly way. Stealth queen.

So...this dress.

We're okay with it being in the Top 3. It's where we would have put it if we were in charge. We would not, however, have given it the win. There was another more deserving dress on the runway. Still, that's for later. Let's talk about this dress.

We weren't as impressed as the judges over the skirt treatment until we saw the pictures this morning. It didn't really show up on our TV screen, but the way he frayed the burlap and worked the trim in really is quite beautiful and unique.

Where we part ways with the judges is the bodice on this thing. Sure, we get that he was going for a rough, kind of deconstructed feel with the frayed edges and such...

But the bottom of this dress has a very polished and finished feel to it despite all the fraying, and the top just looks unfinished and incomplete to us.

Still, it really is a great-looking frock. We might not have awarded it the win, but we have no real problem with it since it was such a strong look.
